James Edward Johnson Jr., is a native of Baltimore, Maryland. He is the son of Reverend James Sr. and Barbara Johnson. He was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System, having graduated from the Baltimore School for the Arts. It was at the Peabody Conservatory of Music of the Johns Hopkins University, in Baltimore, MD, where he continued his musical studies, with a focus in Jazz Performance. At the age of 5, Minister Johnson began playing the drums and organ at his home church in Baltimore, Maryland, Mt. Zion C.O.G.I.C., where his father Reverend James Johnson, Sr., serves as Pastor, and his mother, Lady Barbara Johnson serves as Minister of Music. In 2001 Minister Johnson began working in the field of music production, songwriting and arranging. It was through this new found passion where he has produced, performed, recorded and written for several artist including, 3 Wise, Alvin Slaughter, Maurette Brown-Clark, Stephen Hurd, Mark Gross, Michael Austin, Doreen Vail,Bishop Rudolph McKissick and a host of other notable musicians and entertainers. In June 2008, James became the Minister of Music, Worship and Arts at the Cedar Street Baptist Church of God, located in Richmond, Virginia. In March 2011 James worked along with his Pastor; Dr. Anthony M. Chandler, Sr. to produce a music album entitled “Indeed”, featuring the Music Ministry of the Cedar Street Baptist Church of God. Most recently, James has worked along with Grammy Nominated and Stellar Award Winning Artist Troy Sneed and produced two of his most recent albums; “All Is Well” and “Awesome God”. James most recent work can also be heard as the producer/songwriter of the Arkansas Gospel Mass Choir latest album, which features the hit song “You Alone”, co-written with award winning songwriter Michael McDowell. In February 2016, James will release his anointed and inspiring debut single titled “AGREE”. The release of his debut album is scheduled to release August 2016. James’ favorite Scripture is Deuteronomy 28:2, “And all these blessings shall come on thee, and overtake thee…” This is what the Lord has done. James is a member of the oldest Music Fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Fraternity INC. James is married to Synethia Johnson and they share as the proud parents of James Edward III, and Jada Elise.
